Vulcan brings together healthcare, research, regulatory, and technology communities to solve real-world interoperability challenges.
Each of our projects is focused on developing and supporting the adoption of FHIR Implementation Guides (IGs) that make it easier to share data across organizations, countries, and systems, accelerating discovery and improving patient care. Our portfolio includes projects at different stages:
- Newly forming projects that are defining their scope and gathering collaborators.
- Active development projects drafting and testing Implementation Guides.
- Adoption-focused projects where Version 1 is published and being implemented, while Version 2 is in progress.
What is HL7 FHIR?
HL7 FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) is a standard for exchanging healthcare information electronically, developed by HL7. It acts as a set of building blocks for creating APIs and messages, enabling different healthcare systems to share data regardless of how it’s stored.
Why Our Work Is So Important
Healthcare and research generate enormous amounts of data, but too often it’s locked in silos, hard to share, and slow to use.
Vulcan projects are working to change that. By building on HL7 FHIR, we:
